STEM? We ain't new to this, we true to this!
Most people have never met any Black MIT Alumni, so millions of Black youth just assume that we aren't at the top and all through STEM industries and academia, and don't see themselves rising to success in STEM as possibilities for their lives.
Well in reality, there are thousands of us out here, and Meet BAMIT is here to let our upcoming generations see and hear folks who are working in industry, teaching, running departments, businesses and more - who look like them, come from their neighborhoods and nations, have been where they have been and have felt how they have felt.
We bring Black MIT alumni into youth STEM spaces for short, high-impact Zoom sessions that spark imagination and help make pathways to academic and career success visible and real.
Outcome: students see real people, hear real journeys, ask real questions, and leave believing "this could really be me."
Representation matters. Seeing and talking to a living, breathing, successful person like yourself changes what feels possible to you.
Simple by design. STEM programs just need to have their kids in front of a screen – Alumni can even be on their phone. Just sign up and show up, share and listen to lived experiences – what could be easier?
Educator-friendly. We work through STEM program leaders - not students directly - to keep it safe and smooth.
Repeatable. A consistent format lets us scale without losing the human spark.
Your story is what our Ancestors dreamed of.
Take 20 minutes to "Pay that Dream Forward" to future generations.
Reach out to STEM programs, your childhood schools, community groups, faith organizations, or more – let our kids see you IRL (In Real Life)!
Total time commitment: 20 Minutes
Put living Black MIT alumni in front of your students – with zero cost or effort for you other than making sure that they are present!
We do not contact students directly. All coordination is through program leads.
Participation is open to any STEM Programs or other youth programs that are interested and can have their students attend our bi-weekly Zoom sessions.
No, the program is 100% free to participate in. Just pay your ISP and electric bill and you're good!
Yes, the sessions are presented in webinar format where in general, only the speakers appear on camera. In the Q&A portions, students can be blurred out or shown on camera based on their preferences.
